ever notice how limited language is? Typing all the time in text-messengers i can't help but notice. Even with the little expression pictures you can't get your feelings across quite how you want to.

Language seems to be the most common way to express oneself. I'm not good at art or music, so it's more or less what i'm left with. I like writing, but words don't seem to convey enough. Maybe i just need a bigger vocabluary, maybe i need a new hoby.

I don't know if we are so much limited by languages as we limit ourselves.

I mean, think about a concept like "love": we use a tired old analogy like the "heart" to explain how we feel about another. Yet, the heart is just an organ that pumps blood. It can't break, none of that.

It's just one old boring cliche metaphor. And yet we choose to use it. Maybe we just limit ourselves because we don't want to work for being understood--I mean, instead of using a diatribe to explain a really complex, abstract emotion, we stick with one trite word.

It might just be a matter of convenience.

ever tried taking pictures?

i always considered "my art" to be words, for similar reasons to you (i.e., lack of perceived visual-artsy talent), but also felt frustrated at times with their limitations. when i got my camera before coming to Mexico, though, i found it to be a great compliment to words, when you want to capture something you see without having to describe it... plus, with today's digital technology, you really don't need much talent to take decent shots and you don't have to worry about "wasting" film :) [only draw-back is the price tag...]
